Singer <\/summary>\n

A graphite portrait A2 in size depicting a singer wearing a leather jacket and holding a microphone. The piece combines realistic observational drawing with abstract elements, creating a visual contrast between recognisable representation and a more expressive interpretation of the subject.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conceptually, the work explores the idea of celebrity and the distance we often place between public figures and ourselves. Despite fame, status, and the personas presented to an audience, a celebrity remains a person first, subject to the same emotions, vulnerabilities, and human experiences as everyone else. The combination of realism and abstraction reflects this tension between the constructed image of a famous individual and the ordinary human being beneath it.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Portrait <\/summary>\n

An A2 semi-realistic portrait created as an exploration of returning to graphite as a primary medium. Although graphite has always been part of my practice, I often overlook it in favour of other methods of creating and tend to use it mainly for initial sketches, outlines, or planning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This piece was an opportunity to return to a more traditional way of working and reconnect with the foundations of my artistic practice. Working directly with graphite allowed me to focus on tonal values, texture, form, and the physical process of building an image by hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
